Three companies just landed on the same idea: an AI agent with its own computer that keeps working after you close the app.
OpenAI launched Dots this week. That made it a three-horse race with Muse and Grok Bot.
I am adding a fourth: Town (town.com). It is not the same "cloud PC" product. It is the integration-heavy cousin a lot of people will confuse with the first three. Worth putting on the same table.
I care about three things: what it costs to start, what the UI actually feels like, and what it can do, and what it cannot.

1. Muse (Meta)
UI: Mobile-first (iPhone / Android), muse.ai, WhatsApp, Mac app. Feels like messaging a person. One agent. Many jobs.
✓ Does: Always-on on a secure VM. Approvals for sensitive acts. Strong on WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, plus Gmail, Calendar, Spotify and more.
✕ Limits: US/Canada 18+. Weekly free cap (~100M tokens at launch). Outside Meta + a short connector list, reach feels thinner. Paid: Power $20/mo (500M/wk) · Maximum $100/mo (3B/wk). Canada often shows CAD ~28 / ~139.
➤ Take: Best personal-life agent if you live in Meta apps. Not a work team.
2. Grok Bot
UI: Sidebar of named bots. Each has its own chat, memory, tools, routines. Feels like a small company, not one blob.
✓ Does: Multi-bot roster. Cloud computer (browser, files, terminal, connectors). Teach by showing. Keeps working when your laptop is closed.
✕ Limits: No standing free tier after trial. Rides on Cursor Pro (~$20/mo+) or SuperGrok / X Premium+. Weekly allowance + overages. You have to design the roster.

3. Dots (OpenAI)
UI: Inside ChatGPT (web / desktop / mobile). Bubbly Dot avatar. Also Slack + Teams. Voice from ChatGPT. SMS waitlist for Pro.
✓ Does: Own cloud computer + browser. 4,000+ apps. Background goals. Sensitive acts need approval. First Dot included on eligible plans. Dot chat does not count toward ChatGPT usage limits. GPT-6 Astra.
✕ Limits: No free tier. Starts at ChatGPT Pro $100/mo. Pro launch excludes EEA / Switzerland / UK. One primary Dot for now. Brand-new (DevDay Sep 29, 2026).
➤ Take: Lowest-friction if you already pay for ChatGPT Pro. Steep door fee if you do not.
4. Town (town.com)
UI: Web Tasks / Need to Know / approvals. Email your Townie (@town.com). iOS + Mac Spotlight-style shortcut. Slack and some messaging inbound.
✓ Does: Learns how you write from existing work. Auto-inbox, meeting briefings, morning briefing, schedule optimizer. 50+ integrations. Sandboxed code. Stock + custom routines.
✕ Limits: Not the same "own computer that clicks the web" class yet (desktop browser + local files still coming). Free = 30 chats/mo + Weekly Briefing only. Starter ($15) caps routines and schedule-only triggers. Real automation wants Pro at $49/mo. Credits do not roll over.
➤ Take: Best ops Townie for inbox and calendar. Put it on the table so nobody confuses it with a full computer agent.
How I would choose
Free with a weekly cap → Muse
Cheapest serious automation → Town Starter / Pro
Fleet of work bots + real cloud PC → Grok Bot
Already on ChatGPT Pro → Dots
Instagram / WhatsApp life → Muse
Slack / Teams + ChatGPT → Dots
Inbox and calendar bottleneck → Town
You can run more than one. I do not treat them as twins. Today I am running Grokbot for my projects, Muse for my personal and Instagram, and Town as just a backup since it's free.
